I while ago I was talking on my Instagram stories about my morning routine which will bring you joy and peace too and here I am today sharing it finally here too .But, first I want to start by telling you a little bit more about myself, so you will get a better picture of this.
It`s been studied that about 15-20% of the world’s population are highly sensitive people and I belong to this group. That means in reality, that our nervous system is more sensitive than non-sensitive people.
Oh, now you are overreacting – you are being so sensitive! This is what I heard so many times in my childhood when I was growing up. Everybody new that I was “so sensitive” but, nobody ever took it that seriously. Don’t get me wrong, I have no hard feelings, at that time (40 years ago when my life started) there was no research about highly sensitive people and no internet to provide this information. I was different and that was that.
As a teenager I remember wondering why i was so tired always after spending time with friends or going to shopping. I really thought that my body was not healthy somehow. After being shopping or interacting few hours, I felt like I wanted to go to a dark room where there is nothing to stimulate me…no lightning, no sounds…anything. Of course I didn’t understand even to protect myself from excessive overload at that age, I lived like everybody else.
After I heard first time about it few years ago – I instantly understood myself and got answers to so many questions regarding myself. The biggest thing has been the realization that there’s nothing wrong with me, my view of things is as true as non-sensitives. I even believe that world needs people that are more sensitive. Highly sensitive people are very emphatic and think deeper about things. This world needs all the caring available – do you agree?
Elaine Aron, mother of the research about highly sensitive people says: “When there’s too much coming at us, we get tired, we get over aroused and over stimulated and that has a lot of effects. One effect of being easily over stimulated or over aroused is that we don’t perform as well under those circumstances than non- sensitives do.”
I recognize myself so much from this. When I have too much things coming in, as life tends to do every now and then, I locked up – everything feels too much. But when you know the reason why this world sometimes feel too much for you – it gets so much easier to work through these situations. of course I live more prophylactically because I know myself.
That been said, today’s topic is one of the things that I do everyday to calm my nervous system and feel more balanced.
SMILE TO YOUR HEART PRACTICE
I learn this technique about a year ago from a book I read from the Taoist Master Mantak Chia. It a very easy meditation. For me meditation is simple thing and nothing to do with woo-woo stuff. What I believe about human health and creating a meaningful, good life beyond ordinary it requiers meditation.
You cannot find sustainable happiness without meditation and that is a fact – you believe it or not. You have to get above your mind and your everyday thinking patterns. Your mind is many times the trouble maker. You have to sit in silence and quiet your mind. This is what meditation basically is. A practice to quiet your mind and be in this moment, getting touch with your true state of being. Nothing complicated, nothing woo-woo.
I drink my morning coffee outdoors every morning and usually make this little practice after that on the terrace of our yard sauna. But I know there’s people out there who don’t feel comfortable to meditate outdoors…
Here’s how to do it:
1. Find a comfortable place to sit down and close your eyes.
2. If you wish, put your hands on your chest above your heart.
3. Place your consciousness into your heart, become aware of your heart.
4. Now, imagine smiling at your own heart (you can actually smile with your face too) Imagine giving love and gentleness to yourself – directly to your heart, from where it gradually spreads throughout your body. Let it heal anything there is to be healed. Free your mind of any thoughts and just feel the smiling, kind feeling you are giving yourself.
5. Stop when you feel relaxed and feel like it
